Since the invention of the internet, humans have been the primary creators of internet data.

Nonetheless, this situation is undergoing swift transformations, with the expectation that, in the future, objects or “things” will assume a crucial role in producing the majority of internet data.

The presence of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is evident across various industries, such as healthcare.

For instance, wearable health monitors can collect information like heart rate or blood pressure from patients. Transmitting data to doctors via the internet, these devices enable remote monitoring of patients. In agriculture, sensors are employed to gather information regarding soil composition or temperature.

The humidity or the rainfall of that particular area all of that can help to automate farming or in other industries as well but probably the most common place that we can see them today is in our homes or i better say smart homes now the majority of the smart home iot devices that we have today

4 gigahertz band to connect to the network and not the 5 gigahertz band at least not right now so for example if i want to connect my smart led light bulb to the network i should somehow enter my 2.4 gigahertz wi-fi name and password on the light bulb so it can connect obviously i can’t do it directly but i can use my smartphone to do that well each manufacturer might use a slightly different method but what usually happens is that i installed the light bulb app on my phone and then connect my phone to the default wi-fi of the light bulb this allows me to enter

I can share my 2.4 gigahertz Wi-Fi name and password with the light bulb, allowing it to connect. Once successfully connected, I gain control through the phone app or, if supported, virtual home assistants like Amazon Alexa. Voice commands such as “Alexa, turn on light one” become a convenient way to operate the device. Exploring our Wi-Fi IoT devices, connecting the LED light bulb to the network was straightforward, without the need for a hub.

For instance, if a wireless router serves as the heart of my network, it should have a robust username and password, different from the default credentials. Regularly updating the router’s firmware is essential. The Wi-Fi network should be secured with strong authentication, encryption, and a password. Additionally, an active firewall, preferably an X-gen firewall, should safeguard the network, providing access to useful features.

Challenges and Considerations;

In addition to general network security, securing the IoT device itself is crucial. To ensure this, I exclusively consider purchasing IoT devices from reputable brand names. These brands prioritize the security of their products and customers, ensuring secured firmware. If any vulnerabilities are identified, they promptly provide updates to address them. Contrastingly, unbranded IoT devices, often found on platforms like eBay, lack the assurance of robust security measures.

Should do to add more security is to make sure that i’m using a separate wi-fi for my iot devices only and make sure this wi-fi doesn’t have access to my personal wi-fi or even lan so in case a hacker can hack one of my iot devices they cannot use that to access my personal network there are different ways that i might be

One effective method to achieve this is by using VLANs, but a simpler approach involves the use of a guest Wi-Fi for my IoT devices. Ensuring the guest Wi-Fi lacks access to the main Wi-Fi is a straightforward way to enhance security. I’ve elaborated on this in a previous video, which you can check out if you’re interested.
